Nothing to report … more or less

Yes, I am still alive and the blog of course isn’t closed … but there wasn’t a lot to report recently.

I am still taking time-off from poker as we spend much time practicing for our last competition season in Boogie Woogie main class. Unfortunately - after practicing the whole winter and early spring - things didn’t turn out as expected so far. We missed our first competition in Finland (World Masters) due to my partners flight back from Canada being delayed. Our second competion (Northern German Championship) was also a no-show as I injured my extensor tendon on the left thumb just four days before the competition. Finally our third try - the World Masters in Slovenia - resulted in our first appearance in this season. But it seemed we lost our rhythm (with just one week of practice after the break) and we didn’t made a good result (40th out of 52). Hopefully things will run better in Austria (Langenzersdorf) next weekend.

As I see tournament poker as a kind of sport it also means for me you have to practice or at least have current live experience to get good results in bigger tournaments. As this isn’t the case so far in 2012 I decided to skip Las Vegas and the Venetian Deepstack this summer too. We will still have a nice vacation coming up that will lead us to Boston, Washington, Philadelphia and New York but (except for a small side trip to Atlantic City) there will be no poker during that trip.

So, “nothing to report” isn’t correct at all but there’s not much in terms of stuff that might be really interesting for my readers. I hope to come up with some more interesting stuff from other areas in the near future.

From Blogging to Microblogging

Maybe Tumblr is what I was looking for.

Blogging is fun … but blogging with heavy weights systems like Blogger or recently Wordpress started to get difficult for me. I don’t want to compile long articles after several days of travel anymore. I prefer to do smaller stuff shortly after it happend. Of course I need the abilty to post pictures and Videos. And yes, 140 characters is of way too short for any blogging.

So I will try how this will work out with Tumblr. I still cover the different areas Social Media, Lotus Notes, Poker & Dancing in that blog. So if you are interested just in certain parts of my blogging just use the Tags on the right (or bookmark the taglinks).

My pictures from the 24th BB Dance Camp

My pictures from the 24th BB Dance Camp

The “24th Boogie-Baeren Whitsun Camp” – now better known as “BB Dance Camp” – is over and it was again a great time in Landsberg near Munich. Over 400 Boogie-Woogie and Lindy Hop dancers took classes with some of the best teachers available and danced all night to the sound of the Swinging’ Fireballs and the tunes of our great DJ’s. Not to forget the great teachers performances and the Frankie-Award Ceremony for Norma Miller!

In addition to my usual work at the camp I was also around as a photographer this time. It was the first time for me to cover a dancing / dance classes event and it worked quite well. If you attended the camp and like to see some great memories or if you missed it … and like to see what you missed – here are my slideshows from the weekend. Just follow the links below and then start the slideshow with the start arrow and/or change into fullscreen mode with the button on the lower right.

The classes from the camp (and all other stuff around)

The Boogie and Swing Ball with the “Swinging’ Fireballs”

The Sunday Night Fever Party and of course … the After-Party

 The Add-On: A small Sepia-Series

If you like my pictures you are free to use them for personal purpose (e.g. your private Facebook page) as long as you keep the watermark intact! You can find the low-res and watermarked pictures below the slideshows. Please be aware that this does not transfer any further usage rights or the right to sell those pictures! Of course I am always happy about backlinks and mentions if you like my work.

If you want them for commercial use and/or prefer a hi-res picture without watermark then you can buy them for €2 ($3) per picture. Alternatively you can get the complete “BB Dance Camp Edition” for €15 ($20). This includes all pictures from the above slideshows. Please be aware that commercial use includes also the use on professional websites or any similar purpose.

Just send an email to shadowbj21@googlemail.com, write “BB Dance Camp Pictures” in the subject (to avoid my spamfilter) and let me know the names of the pictures you like. You can find the picture names in the galleries below the slideshows. I will then send you a PayPal link and the pictures after the transaction is completed. Single pictures will be sent by email and albums by CD (due to the size). No postage cost for Germany. Please add €5 ($7) for CD’s sent outside Germany.

Hi-res pictures have 300 dpi (instead of 96 dpi) and usually something between 1000×600 up to 4288×2848 pixel (depending if the image was cropped). Buying pictures allows you to use them in any legal way but still does not transfer the copyright. Therefore reselling those pictures is still prohibited!

If you are interested in exclusive usage rights please contact me for special negotations.

Just four more weeks till Las Vegas

After skipping Vegas and the WSOP in 2010 I am happy to come back again this year!

The WSOP has already started and on July 4th I will arrive in Las Vegas, too. I won’t play a WSOP event and unfortunately I was refused media credentials this year for very strange reasons. But there’s so much to do in Vegas anyway during that time of the year. Of course I will play two of the Venetian Deepstacks and add some smaller events if they fit to my time table. Top tournaments on my list are Hard Rock, Aria and Wynn.

In addition to my tournaments I hope to find some time for cashgames … especially at the MGM (which is my favorite place for cash games). Expect also some interesting pictures from the new city-center resorts and the WSOP itself. Not having media credentials doesn’t mean I won’t be able to take pictures!

A good friend helped me with my room this year … and it will be the Mandaly Bay. I haven’t stayed at the Mandalay Bay for some years … but I always enjoyed the times I stayed there! So I’m absolutely looking forward to my stay this year.

Unfortunately I will be in Vegas only for a single week … but it won’t be the end of the trip. I will pick up my girlfriend in Denver and we add three more weeks of vacation that will lead us to Yellowstone, Seattle and Vancouver too. So if your interest is not limited to Poker stay tuned for some more interesting stuff during the rest of July.

But until the start of the trip there will be another Boogie-Woogie Worldcup in Winterthur and our huge Boogie-Baers Whitsun-Camp in Landsberg.

Great times! :-)
