Watching Facebooks f8 opening keynote live on the big screen via “Livestream”. According to quite reliable sources there are big announcements ahead that will change FB forever. Will continue to post interesting stuff about f8 here. So stay tuned if you can’t follow by yourself.
19:15 They are a bit behind the scheduled 7pm start!
19:18 Mark Zuckerberg opening f8 conference
19:22 Oh wait, that arkward guy wasn’t Mark ;-) but a funny Andy Sandberg
19:24 Now we get the real one!
19:27 Talking about the heart of FB “the Profile” and how it changed since the start of FB. The first versions had been really “basic”.
19:30 Introducing Timeline. New Profile contains all your stories, all your apps … a new way to express who you are. Scrolling down your timeline - wow, looks impressing and well designed. Of course, there is a mobile version too!
19:33 Mark explains how timeline is built.
19:38 Next Topic: Apps. Apps now can be built into your timeline and create reports about your activity.
19:44 Full control over your timeline: Highlight important things, delete unimportant ones or add those that are missing … timeline creates a huge profile of yourself. Great but dangerous at the same time as you are profiling yourself in detail!
19:50 Expanded “Like” concept … connect to anything in any way: read, watch, review and more.
19:53 Explains the reason for the new life feed … all activity goes there and doesn’t clutter your news feed. Still not buying this part completely.
20:00 New class of apps: One example … Spotify - play along music in new FB with your friends and discover new music through your friends.
20:06 Daniel Ek - CEO from Spotify talking about how they will use “Open Graph”
20:13 With “Open Graph” you can discover new stuff. Can you see the difference? You actively search on Google but you can discover new stuff on Facebook. “Search or Discover” … what do you prefer?
20:20 So we are discovering new stuff through social interaction with our friends. That takes the concept of a news aggregator (like known from Zite and others) to a whole new level. Beyond your own interests you can discover new stuff through your friends interests.
20:28 Bret Taylor, CTO of FB explains that you put stuff into the timeline because it’s “important to you” (e.g. running, cooking) but not just for bragging rights - well … ;-)
20:33 “Social by Design” … again it’s the huge spread between being social by sharing and the risk of profiling yourself more than you probably like. As always use your brain while using “social graph”!
20:42 Chris Cox talking about the new trend of building “infographics” and how this was part of the new timline. “Scrapbooking” your FB life.
20:55 Mark is closing the keynote by summarizing all the stuff and answering one important question: “When does it start”? Timeline will be rolled out from now in the next weeks and Open Graph is on a smooth start now too!

Overall a very interesting keynote with a ton of changes. And as said before - FB will change forever. G+ and Twitter beware ;-)
